EMDR of Greater Washington  is located in Washington, DC and co-directed by Daniel Merlis, LICSW and Deany Laliotis, LICSW.  We offer both basic and advanced EMDR weekend trainings  throughout the year to licensed mental health professionals. Trainings are held in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, a location very accessible by air and train from the entire Mid-Atlantic region. This summer, we are offering basic and advanced trainings at the Kripalu Yoga Institute, a retreat center in the Berkshires of western Massachusetts.   Trainings are also held in other locations at the request of local sponsors. Please feel free to contact us if you would like to organize and sponsor a training at other times or at another location.  Check the Training Schedules section of the website to see the locations and dates of trainings currently planned.  For information on tuition and how to register for the trainings, visit the Registration Info section of the website.

Intensive Basic Training in DC:

The 51-hour, 7-day intensive basic EMDR training is designed for clinicians who are interested in learning to integrate EMDR successfully into their clinical practice.  These training weekends are held monthly over a period of 3 months. The course is limited in size to ten participants in order to allow for more individualized instruction, supervised practice and case consultation than is possible in the standard-format training.  The training will consist of lecture, videotaped demonstrations, ongoing case consultation, and supervised experiential practice in using EMDR to reprocess  participants’ own life experiences.  This program meets the basic training requirements towards certification by the EMDR International Association (www.emdria.org).  The course can be considered an enhanced combined equivalent of the widely-known EMDR Institute, Inc. Part I and Part II courses and it also includes the 10 hours of case consultation required for completion of basic training under the newly revised standards of the EMDR International Association.  This consultation is provided at no additional cost as part of our basic training program.

Intensive Basic Training at Kripalu Institute

This basic training is a one-week training held in June at the Kripalu Yoga Institute and is organized in a retreat format with morning and evening time available for other activities at Kripalu.  Registration for this workshop is handled by Kripalu.  The training does not include the consultation hours required by EMDRIA for completion of the EMDRIA-approved basic training.  Participants will make private arrangements with EMDRIA-approved consultants for this consultation.

Advanced Training Workshops:

These weekend workshops are designed for clinicians who have completed an EMDRIA-approved basic EMDR training program and who wish to deepen their understanding of EMDR principles, protocols and procedures.  Building on the basic precepts of the model, clinicians will be able to enhance their ability to apply EMDR as a comprehensive psychotherapy approach.  Participants will learn about the latest developments in EMDR, case conceptualization, cognitive interweave strategies, advanced applications of the three-pronged approach, and resourcing strategies that can be used throughout the course of treatment.
